Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Hop & Barrel ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website hopandbarrel.com and the Hop & Barrel brewery marketing planning application (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our Service.

2. Information We Collect

We collect only the minimum information necessary to provide the Service:

• Account information: Your email address and password (hashed) when you create an account via Netlify Identity.
• Billing information: Payment processing is handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card number, bank details, or full payment information. We only receive a confirmation that payment was successful and your subscription status.
• Plan content: The brewery information, campaign content, and marketing plans you create inside the app are stored locally in your browser (sessionStorage) and in plan files you download to your own device. We do not store your plan content on our servers.
• Usage data: Basic server logs including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This is standard web server logging used to maintain security and diagnose technical issues.
• AI requests: When you use the AI generation features, your prompts are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses. See Section 6 for details.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect solely to:

• Create and maintain your account
• Process subscription payments through Stripe
• Provide access to the Hop & Barrel application
• Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, billing receipts)
• Respond to support requests you submit to us
• Diagnose technical problems and maintain the security of the Service

We do not use your information for advertising, behavioral tracking, or building profiles for marketing purposes.

4. Information We Do Not Share

We will never share your personal information with third parties except in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers: We use a small number of trusted vendors to operate the Service — specifically Netlify (hosting and authentication) and Stripe (payment processing). These vendors are contractually required to protect your data and may only use it to provide their services to us. They are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.
• Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or valid governmental process, we may disclose information to comply with legal obligations. We will notify you of such requests where legally permitted to do so.
• Business transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email and/or a prominent notice on our website before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Outside of these three situations, we do not share your information with anyone.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your account credentials are stored securely by Netlify Identity using industry-standard encryption. Passwords are never stored in plain text.

Your marketing plan content is stored in your browser's local session storage and in files you save to your own device — not on our servers. When you clear your browser storage or end your session, that content is cleared from the browser automatically.

We use HTTPS encryption for all data transmitted between your browser and our servers. We implement security headers and access controls on our infrastructure to protect against unauthorized access.

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

6. Anthropic AI Processing

The AI content generation features in Hop & Barrel are powered by Anthropic's Claude API. When you generate marketing plans, social posts, or other content, your brewery information and prompts are sent to Anthropic's servers to generate responses.

Anthropic processes this data according to their own privacy policy, available at anthropic.com/privacy. We recommend reviewing Anthropic's policy to understand how they handle API data.

We do not send any personally identifiable account information (your email, name, or payment details) to Anthropic. Only the brewery-related content you enter into the planning tool is included in AI requests.

7. Cookies and Tracking

We use only the cookies necessary to operate the Service:

• Authentication cookies: Set by Netlify Identity to keep you logged in during your session.
• Session storage: Used by the app to preserve your work-in-progress plan within your current browser session. This is not a cookie and is cleared when you close your browser tab.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, third-party analytics, or any technology designed to track your behavior across other websites. We do not use Google Analytics or similar services.

8. Your Rights

You have the following rights regarding your personal information:

• Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
• Correction: You may request that we correct inaccurate personal information.
• Deletion: You may request that we delete your account and associated personal information. To request deletion, email privacy@hopandbarrel.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
• Portability: Your plan data is already stored on your own device. You can export it at any time using the "Save This Plan to File" feature in the app.
• Opt-out of communications: You may unsubscribe from non-transactional emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any such email.

For California residents: Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information. To exercise your rights, contact privacy@hopandbarrel.com.

9. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you cancel your subscription and request account deletion, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or financial compliance purposes (such as billing records, which are retained for 7 years as required by tax law).

10. Children's Privacy

The Service is intended for adults operating or managing brewery businesses. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 18. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a minor, we will delete it promptly.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email and by posting the updated policy on this page with a new effective date. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
